William Talbot

Born in 1812 in Maine, Talbot is accredited to Boston, MA. He received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Vicksburg, when the Louisville and other ironclads were used to back an amphibious assault on the Confederate earthworks called Fort Hindman.

Served as captain of the forecastle on board the USS Louisville at the capture of the Arkansas post, 10 and 11 January 1863. Carrying out his duties as captain of a 9-inch gun, Talbott was conspicuous for ability and bravery throughout this engagement with the enemy.
