George Grant

Accredited to Indiana, George Grant may be the only recipient awarded the Medal of Honor for perseverance. He was born in 1834 in Raleigh, TN, and awarded the Medal for actions throughout the month of February, 1867.
Citation: Bravery, energy, and perseverance, involving much suffering and privation through attacks by hostile Indians, deep snows, etc., while voluntarily carrying dispatches.
